چکیده
The article written by Zamora et al1 provided an excellent description of the phenomenon known as the obesity paradox in heart failure patients, in this case in a population of heart failure outpatients who had received adequate concomitant treatment for heart failure. Obstructive sleep apnea–hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is highly prevalent among the general population and is related to the development of various cardiovascular complications that determine patient prognosis, among them, ventricular dysfunction, systemic and pulmonary hypertension, cerebrovascular disease, and cardiac rhythm disorders.2-5 In addition, obesity is the main risk factor of OSAHS, with a direct relation observed between the degree of obesity and the severity

متن کاملMassive Scrotal Edema: An Unusual Manifestation of Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Obesity-Hypoventilation Syndrome
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) may occur in association with obesity-hypoventilation (Pickwickian) syndrome, a disorder of ventilatory control affecting individuals with morbid obesity. Through the pressor effects of chronic hypercapnia and hypoxemia, this syndrome may result in pulmonary hypertension, right heart failure, and massive peripheral edema. We present a case of severe scrotal edema i...
متن کاملHeart failure and sleep apnea.
leep apnea has an association with various cardiovascular diseases and generally, it is classified as either obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) or central sleep apnea (CSA). OSA is a well-known trigger of cardiovascular diseases, whereas CSA is associated with cardiac pathologies that could further worsen prognosis. CSA, rather than OSA, is common in patients with heart failure. However, OSA and CSA...
